Focusing on Your Development
Focusing on Your Development
Each executive coach should bring deep and valuable experience to the coaching relationship. At the same time, senior leaders should expect far more from an executive coach than just a professional certification. The most impactful executive coaches have also led organizations in multiple functions and are themselves students of leadership.
My personal leadership journey began at a young age and accelerated after my enlistment in the U.S. Army at the age of 17. Upon graduation from Valley Forge Military Academy I received a commission as an Army officer and served in multiple deployments around the globe in support of both humanitarian and combat operations.
Later, I spent over 25 years in industry in both Fortune 500 and start-up environments. Functionally, I was fortunate to have leadership roles in sales, commercial operations, recruiting, marketing, and learning&development, up to the VP level, and including global responsibility. One of the most novel and beneficial aspects of my career is that over half my leadership roles were newly created, allowing me to design and launch new departments, even in large established organizations.
My continued passion for serving and assisting other leaders has led to my focus in Executive Coaching and leadership/management development.
Professionally, I am a Certified Executive Coach from the UC Berkeley Executive Education and Berkeley Executive Coaching Institute and hold a Bachelors degree in World Politics and a Masters in Education.
As a coach I strive to meet the needs of each potential executive coaching client. At the same time I know that the coaching relationship is a very personal one and both parties must feel comfortable in the engagement. I may not be the right coach for you, but commit to exploring that together.
The Executive and Coach meet to discuss the process/goals, and determine if both are comfortable entering into a coaching relationship.
The Executive and/or executives organization clarify specific expectations, length of engagement, and desired diagnostic tools. Most coaching engagements are a minimum of six months.
This individualized plan may include a 360-degree assessment, interviews with the Executives manager, peers, director reports, colleagues, and review of recent performance reviews/documentation.
The Executive Coach reviews and analyzes the assessment data and meets with the Executive to review and discuss how this data will help inform the coaching plan/goals.
Individual sessions are typically scheduled for one-hour every other week based on the Executive and Coach schedules and availability.
At the completion of the engagement the Executive and Coach will conduct a final review/evaluation to assess the Executives progress and identify next steps to insure continued growth and development.
The coaching relationship is one where confidentiality is paramount and all sessions will be treated as such. It is the Executives decision if they choose to share the content of coaching sessions with others. The Executive Coach , however, will not share any information regarding the coaching sessions with anyone, including individuals within the Executives organization.
"I have had leadership roles in the medical device industry for several years and have had the privilege to work with some great executive coaches. Recently, my executive coaching experience was elevated to a much higher level when I began working with Pat D'Amico. It has been a series of incredible interactions and I have learned so much about myself and what I need to work on to be a more effective leader. Pat makes every interaction comfortable yet he challenges you to think critically about your strengths and weaknesses in a way that is always enlightening. I feel very fortunate to have Pat in my professional life in this capacity and I highly recommend those who are looking for extraordinary executive coaching to work with him."
- VP, Medical Affairs and Professional Education, Fortune 50 Company
I've known Pat for a decade, and during that time, I have concluded that he excels anywhere he focuses. He has trained and mentored some of the most talented employees I have had the pleasure of knowing. In the last year, I decided to work with Pat in a coaching capacity. All I can say is "Wow." First off, Pat provided a safe space for me to share my challenges. Pat also allowed the discussions to go to uncomfortable places while having nothing but my best interest in mind. With his rich work history, he was able to color our discussions with real-world examples relevant to the discussion. These examples promoted deep introspection and helped guide me to the answers I was seeking. I would recommend Pat and his services to every and anyone.
- VP, Fortune 20 Company
"After more than 20 years in Pharmaceutical/Medical Device Commercial Management, I have learned so much from many amazing companies and individuals. When I considered an executive coach, Pat asked what my goals would be? While wanting to have people enjoy working with me, the greater goal that I set for myself was to provide people the best learning experience from my leadership skills. Pat challenged me to consider my approach to leadership, and to broaden my consideration beyond my current skills. You can “teach an old dog a new trick”, and with Pat this was a reality for me. He started with explaining the process that he would use, and then gathering feedback about me from those who I work with most often. From this, Pat was able to offer awareness, knowledge, and useful new skills that have helped me integrate and apply what I’ve learned into my day-to-day life. His confidential and real-life conversations have enabled me an approach to improve my abilities, create the future that I want for myself, and best contribute to my organization’s success. His techniques have allowed me to treat every day as a development experience for myself! "
- VP, Commercial Operations, Global Medical Device Company
"I have worked with Pat in a multitude of training exercises, including direct sales training as well as management training over the last several years. Working with Pat has helped increase my sales teams effectiveness in the field as well as help me learn to lead the team through the sales process. Pat started working with me on increasing my executive skills over the last year and it paid off very quickly. He has a process that is thorough and effective to develop skillsets that were lacking and increasing my management strengths. Pat’s style of questioning my reasoning for acting or reacting the way I did, helped develop a better understanding of my thought process and leadership style. I would highly recommend Pat for executive and sales coaching or training."
- Director of Sales, $100 million Medical Device Company
"Pat has a calm demeanor when coaching and asks targeted questions to lead you down a path of self-realization. In my opinion this tactic ensures you retain these key learnings, making it more likely to deploy them in the future. Pat was supportive and provided examples that specifically related to the issues. After my coaching experience with Pat I have been able to apply the tools that he provided successfully."
- Director, Sales Enablement, Fortune 200 Company
